As you know, we’ve been plugging away the last month taking a look at who is retiring from the legislature at the conclusion of the session. In all, six Senators and 22 Representatives will not be returning, including several members who are committee chairs and part of their respective chamber’s leadership. Among them is Rep. Jerry Stern (R-Blair), who will retire the end of the current session. He has served Blair County and the residents of the 80th district since 1992.

Prior to his election, Rep. Stern served as Deputy Prothonotary and was then elected as Blair County Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts. Currently, Rep. Stern serves as the chairman of the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee. He was also previously the Secretary of the House Republican Caucus and was appointed to the Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

In 2009, Rep. Stern was acknowledged for his excellence in agriculture and rural policy-making by the State Agriculture and Rural Leaders Association. Rep. Stern resides in the Martinsburg area with his wife Susan. They have two children and two grandchildren.
